Oliver Remien

Prof. Oliver Remien studied law at the universities of Hamburg and Geneva, and took the first and second state examinations with the Hamburg Courts. He held an assistant's post with the Max-Planck-Institut für ausländisches und internationales Privatrecht in Hamburg and the Institut de Droit Comparé de Paris. From 1982 to 1990, he served as the first Secretary to the Commission on European Contract Law (Lando Group). As a researcher at the Max-Planck-Institut, he took his doctor juris at Hamburg University with a comparative book on fines in order to induce performance (Astreinte, Zwangsgelder) and in 2000 his Habilitation with a book on mandatory contract law and the freedoms of the EC Treaty. Oliver Remien taught at Hamburg, Frankfurt (Oder) and Bielefeld, and in 2001 accepted a call to a chair at the Law Faculty of the University of Würzburg. There, he is also head of studies for the Companion Study Programme in European Law (Begleitstudium im europäischen Recht).
