H.M.M.A. (Hildegard) Penn (Tilburg University), 1950 – 2006

Hildegard Penn

Hildegard Penn studied English and psychology at Utrecht University. After graduation (1978), she worked in Tanzania as a volunteer, e.g. teaching English. In over 20 years, she gained experience in (copy-)editing and proof-reading academic texts in English, and translating (academic) texts into English. These texts covered various disciplines, such as economics, econometrics, sociology and history. Working for publishing houses both in the Netherlands and in Ireland, she gained experience in the various stages of publishing – from copy to book/journal. Over the past eight years, her interest was focused on the fields of law and philosophy, and in order to become better acquainted with translating legal texts, she took specialized legal translation courses. From the very start of the EJCL in 1997 until her untimely demise in 2006, Hildegard acted as its Assistant Editor.
