Jacques du Plessis holds the B Comm LL B and LL M degrees from the
University of Stellenbosch and a PhD from the University of Aberdeen.
After practising as an attorney in Cape Town and working as a research
assistant for Professor Reinhard Zimmermann of the University of
Regensburg, Germany, he joined the Law Faculty of the University of
Stellenbosch, where he currently holds a chair in Private law and Roman
law. He is a former secretary of the South African National Committee of
the International Academy of Comparative Law and is also a member of the
Council of the Society of Law Teachers of Southern Africa and assistant
editor of the Stellenbosch Law Review. His main fields of legal research
are contract, unjustified enrichment and comparative law.
