XVIIth World Congress of Comparative Law

This is a special editorial to announce that the next (XVIIth) World Congress of the International Academy of Comparative Law will be organised by the Faculty of Law of Utrecht University, under the auspices of the Netherlands Comparative Law Association. The conference will be held from Sunday 16 July until Saturday 22 July 2006.

It is a great honour for the Netherlands Comparative Law Association and the Faculty of Law of Utrecht University to organise this conference. The organisation has started almost a year ago, and this is the first public announcement. You will find an organisation chart on a separate page.

We hope to bring together a large number of both academic as well as practising lawyers interested in the study of comparative law, foreign public and private law, international law, the law of international institutions (including the law of, e.g., the European Union, the North American Free Trade Agreement, the Mercado Común del Sur) and unification of the law.

The Congress Office of Utrecht University will be responsible for most of the organisation. The Office can be contacted through the following e-mail address: congres@fbu.uu.nl.

A special conference web site will soon be created. The EJCL will have a link to this special web site.

In the past, any World Congress of Comparative Law has been an enormous opportunity to meet lawyers from other jurisdictions, has created a forum for debate and has been an excellent platform to exchange information and build professional and, not to forget, personal networks. I am fully convinced that the XVIIth Congress will again prove to be such an occasion. I am looking forward to welcoming many of you at Utrecht!

Sjef van Erp,
President of the Netherlands Comparative Law Association,
Editor-in-Chief EJCL
